History of Barangay Lamsugod:

Before the advent of settlers from the different parts of the country, the village was inhabited by an ethnic group called “Tagabili” now popularly known as “T’boli”.

The place was then a thick forestall with minimal cogonal and talahib patches and abounds with wildlife. Lamsugod got its name from the Tagabili word “LEM” meaning “within” and from the Hilonggo word “SUGOD” meaning “beginning” as the place is a plateau that sprung up within the ambient of the Allah and Sapali Rivers.

The Barangay Site is a thirty hectares land reserved by the LASEDECO and surveyed by the Certiza Surveying Office by virtue of Special Work Order (SWO).

Sometime in the year 1950, one Teotimo Alquino, Sr. was appointed as the first barrio official in the rank of “TENYENTE DEL BARRIO” by Mayor Jose Improgo, Jr. of Bañga, Cotabato,as the barrio was once under the political subdivision of Bañga.

Lamsugod is officially proclaimed as a regular barrio on July 18, 1958, and on the same year a primary school was set-up under the initiative of the late Venancio Santa Maria, a Teacher. The progress and development of Lamsugod is attributed to the 28 first batch settlers who braved the hostility of the climate and hunger, cleared the area and set-up a new life.
